A smile can be small, but the hope behind it can be life-changing.
In keeping with its commitment to compassion and community impact, the Mark Ihonre Foundation spent a meaningful day with the children and caregivers of Eghosa Orphanage Home, Benin City, bringing essential food supplies, warmth and a much-needed reminder that they are seen, valued and remembered.
The outreach provided an opportunity not only to give, but also to listen. Speaking on behalf of the orphanage, Clement, the P.R.O., shared the realities confronting motherless, orphaned and underprivileged children under their care. Among the pressing needs are healthcare, education, food, skill acquisition and emergency transportation. He particularly highlighted the need for infant formula and other meal types for infants who cannot be breastfed, as well as financial support towards school fees and medical emergencies.
Despite these challenges, the dedication of the caregivers remains unwavering. Clement described passion, zeal and a deep commitment to humanity as the forces that continue to drive their work.
The most touching moments came through the interactions with the children themselves. A cheerful conversation with young Laura captured the innocence and warmth of the children, while also underscoring the importance of creating an environment where they can grow, learn and look forward to a brighter future.

A Commitment That Goes Beyond the Visit
The Foundation also took a significant step during the visit that goes beyond a single day of giving. Following careful assessment and in close consultation with the home’s management, the Mark Ihonre Foundation has committed to taking full responsibility for the educational needs of two children at Eghosa Orphanage Home — from their current year all the way through to Secondary School.
This commitment covers school fees, uniforms, books, exam fees and any additional educational needs identified by their school. The Foundation will work directly with each child’s school and publish regular updates on their progress every term — so that supporters and the wider community can follow their journey.
Their names and photographs will not be published at this stage, while consent and formal agreements are being finalised with the home and the children’s guardians. We look forward to introducing them properly in the weeks ahead.
A Wider Appeal
The management of the orphanage expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Mark Ihonre Foundation for remembering them and bringing much-needed supplies to the home. Their message also carried a wider appeal: there are many vulnerable children and homes that need the support of individuals, organisations and philanthropists.
